Martha Ellis began practicing mental health counseling in 1995. She has experience working with children and adolescents, foster care/adoptive children, adults, families and couples. Her counseling experiences include anxiety, depression, marriage counseling, grief and loss, divorce, custody issues, self injury, abuse, and issues of confidence. Martha also specializes in Imago Relationship Therapy and Brainspotting, a therapeutic intervention for trauma and anxiety disorders.

James Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Auburn University in 2009, a Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University in 2014 and is currently working on a PhD through Liberty University in Counselor Education and Supervision. James has been counseling since 2014 and has experience working with children, married couples and individuals in a variety of settings. James has experience doing faith based Christian counseling and has studied Christian counseling techniques at a PhD level. James is currently researching techniques he created known as the Unified Theory of Counseling as part of his thesis work. These methods are based in valid, reliable techniques such as Dan Allender’s story work method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Restructuring, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Rogerian Client-centered therapy among others. James works with children, married couples, adolescents and adults. He is the owner of Emerge Counseling currently doing business as Ellis Counseling.

MONICA CONE


Ms. Cone graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Counseling and Development in 1993 and 1995, respectively. Her post graduate training was with children, including forensic interviewer training for abused children. She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.


She has specialized in working with children, teens, and adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment issues for 30 years. She provides Christian Counseling and Discipleship for those desiring faith-based services.

Ms. Cone has specialized training in working with abused and traumatized children and helping children struggling with issues related to divorce, death, adjustment to life changes, school problems, mental health issues, or other concerns. Ms. Cone provides play therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy with children.





JANIE RUPPERT


Janie Ruppert is a counseling student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Troy University. She is completing her internship at Ellis Counseling under the supervision of James Thomas, LPC. As part of her educational experience, Janie is currently offering counseling services at no cost to clients. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 2022 from Jacksonville State University.


Janie takes an integrative approach to counseling, drawing from a person-centered foundation that emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. She helps clients build insight and confidence as they navigate change, develop coping skills, and reconnect with their sense of purpose.


She is especially interested in working with adolescents and adults navigating life transitions, self-esteem challenges, or symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. Janie is passionate about supporting young professionals and others seeking balance, growth, and a deeper sense of self-understanding.

Janyth Baker is a compassionate and empathetic, licensed mental health counselor. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Science, and a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Troy University. She graduated with her M.S. in 2014, and has 7 years of professional clinical mental health counseling experience. Janyth has experience in Substance Use Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Adjustment Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder counseling. She focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other Evidence-Based treatments. Janyth's goals are to provide a safe environment for her clients to feel heard, express themselves in a judgement free zone, and to help her clients live a more fulfilling life, to feel empowered, and to develop healthy coping skills. Throughout her career, she has helped clients overcome traumatic life experiences, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and live a fulfilled/purpose-driven life.



  

AMBER RAE CHILDERS


Amber Rae Childers is an ALC and NCC. Her goal is to help

individuals and groups navigate times of transition and change, as

well as grow in a way that honors their values, priorities, and

dreams. She works with children, adolescents, and adults on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and relationship challenges. One area of client focus is serving high-achieving performers, such as athletes and professionals, that face unique pressures and barriers within their sport or professional area as well as when they face life transitions after graduation, injury, career shifts, or retirement. Amber Rae believes both

individual support and psychoeducation are important for

optimizing the success of individuals and groups as they strive for

success with mental health in mind, navigate current stressors,

and enhance how they prepare for the future. She uses a client-

centered approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy,

reality therapy, and solution focused therapy techniques based on

client needs. She also integrates Christian counseling based on

client preference.


Outside of counseling, Amber Rae has worked for over 17 years

within higher education and college athletics with experience in

administration, teaching, student development programming, and

direct student support. In addition, over time she's served the

communities she's lived and worked in as a youth group leader, an

FCA advisor, and a foster parent.


Amber Rae typically serves clients on late afternoons, nights and

weekends. She looks forward to connecting and supporting clients in a safe, empathetic environment where they can be honest and vulnerable on a path to healing and growth.

the supervision of Martha B. Ellis, a Licensed Professional

Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) in Alabama.




TIM THOMPSON


Tim Thompson is a counseling intern currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Mental

Health Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is completing his clinical

internship at Ellis Counseling under the supervision of James Thomas, LPC, with the internship

anticipated to extend through the year 2027. Tim also holds a Doctor of Theology degree from

Andersonville Theological Seminary and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Counseling

from New Orleans Baptist Leavell College.


Tim integrates several evidence-based and faith-informed approaches in his counseling

work, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

(ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Christian counseling. In addition to his

formal training, he brings over 30 years of pastoral counseling experience, offering a depth of

care informed by professional training and ministry insight.


He has experience working with adults, couples, adolescents, and children facing

concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship and family conflict, and everyday life

stressors. Tim is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where individuals feel

genuinely heard, understood, and supported.


Tim’s heart is to help people move forward with purpose and confidence. He works

alongside clients to set meaningful goals, build healthy coping skills, and discover practical,

personalized solutions that promote growth and well-being.


Tim is currently accepting new clients and welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside

you in your counseling journey. As part of his internship, he is offering counseling services at no

cost for now.
